singing bowl ㄷ

the next consonant (ㄷ) in a series of poems written about a singing bowl, written after Robert Okaji’s shutters poems. see here for the original prolegomenon.

the singing bowl
came from a time
of doing things by hand;
of holds, twists, loops,
of grab, lift, push
of hammer, bend, pinch
-& what place does
it have in the world,
our world, in which computers
play better chess
than Kasparov,
do calculus quicker
than Newton,
pin point locations
more acutely than
the eye of a hawk,
sniff out liars
better than old friends?

a machine still cannot
sing, or hold our ear
as well as
a singing bowl.

a penny for your thoughts
